Microsoft Brings Key Copilot+ AI Features to Intel and AMD PCs

Microsoft Expands Copilot+ AI Features to Intel and AMD PCs
Microsoft is finally bringing a suite of its advanced Copilot+ AI features to PCs equipped with Intel and AMD processors, expanding the availability beyond devices with Snapdragon X series chips. This move aims to democratize AI-powered computing across a wider range of hardware.
Key AI Features Now Available on Intel and AMD Copilot+ PCs:
- Live Captions: This feature provides real-time captions for videos, audio, and online meetings in English. It also offers translation capabilities, converting text from over 40 languages into English and 27 languages into Chinese.
- Cocreator: Integrated into the Paint application, Cocreator allows users to combine text prompts with hand-drawn input for intuitive artistic creation and image refinement. This feature is now accessible on all Copilot+ PCs, regardless of their underlying processor.
- Restyle Image and Image Creator: These tools, available within the Photos app, enable users to generate images from text prompts and apply artistic effects to existing images. Image Creator functions similarly to engaging with tools like ChatGPT for image generation, while Restyle offers preset artistic filters.
- Voice Access (Upcoming): Microsoft plans to roll out Voice Access, a feature that allows users to control their PC using natural language commands. While currently available on Snapdragon-based Copilot+ devices, support for Intel and AMD hardware is expected soon.
Expansion and Availability:
The rollout of these AI experiences to Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs is part of the March 2025 Windows update. This expansion addresses a previous limitation where many of these features were exclusive to devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X processors, despite other hardware meeting the minimum AI performance requirements.
Future Developments and Exclusivity:
Despite this broad expansion, some features will remain exclusive to certain hardware. For instance, an upcoming upgrade to the Windows Search experience, designed to enhance file, photo, and settings discovery, will be restricted to Snapdragon-based Copilot+ machines.
Broader Context:
This development is part of Microsoft's ongoing strategy to position Windows as a leading platform for AI-powered computing, aiming to compete with macOS. The company is also exploring the development of its own AI models, potentially reducing reliance on partnerships like the one with OpenAI.
