Microsoft Bing Introduces Copilot Search to Compete with Google's AI Search

Microsoft's Bing Integrates Copilot Search to Rival Google's AI Mode
Microsoft has launched a new "Copilot Search" option for its Bing search engine, directly competing with Google's recently introduced AI Search mode. This move signifies a growing trend of search engines incorporating AI-powered conversational search experiences.
The Rise of AI in Search
Google recently unveiled its AI Search mode, which aims to provide answers in a conversational, text-based format, similar to how AI chatbots respond to queries. This approach deviates from the traditional search results page featuring blue links to various sources.
Bing's Competitive Response
Microsoft has quickly followed suit by rolling out its own AI-powered search experience through Bing. The "Copilot Search" feature is now accessible across all platforms, including web browsers and the Edge browser on both mobile and desktop.
Accessing Copilot Search
Users can access Copilot Search by visiting Bing Search in any web browser and using the shortcut bing.com/copilotsearch?q=
. Alternatively, within Bing Search, a dedicated "SEARCH" option is available in the top menu bar, alongside "All" and "Image" options, when the Copilot icon is present. Tapping this "SEARCH" option will automatically carry over the user's query to the AI search function.
For desktop users who may not immediately see the Copilot Search option, it can be accessed by clicking the three-dot menu button below the text box and selecting "Copilot Search" from the dropdown menu.
How Copilot Search Works
Copilot Search provides answers in a structured format, which can include paragraphs, numbered bulleted lists, and distinct sections, depending on the complexity of the query. Each paragraph or section is accompanied by a hyperlink that leads to the source material, allowing users to easily access the original content. A carousel of source links is also presented at the bottom of the AI Search results.
While the feature aims to provide accurate information, it's important to note that AI search tools can still make mistakes. Users are advised to cross-reference information with the source material for verification.
Comparison with Google's AI Mode
Microsoft's approach with Copilot Search shares similarities with Google's AI mode, both aiming to deliver comprehensive, AI-generated answers with clear sourcing. The competition between these tech giants in the AI search space is expected to drive further innovation in how users find information online.
